Shields
Defensive energy shields protect all Protoss military units. Protoss warriors use focused psionic energy to surround themselves in impregnable energy shields. Induced psi-field generators allow even the smallest robotic machine to surround itself with a protective field. Protoss energy shields are effective at stopping all manner of physical and energy attacks, but they can be depleted during an attack. Given time, a shield will recharge to full strength, and Shield Batteries can be accessed to increase the rate of this regeneration.
If the shield is created by the mind of the Protoss, the owner has a full control over itś shape, strength and state. It practically makes energetic layer over the body or armour. It coveres the subject´s surface in the closest possible distance. The shield moves along with it´s owner and is dependant only on his position, not on any external interaction. It means, that assault have only effect on the shield´s strength, but they can´t manipulate with the shield - it has no feedback. If the shield is generated artifically, it has regular spherical or eliptical shape. The machine doesn´t have precise control over the shape, but it can have some useful shapes preset. E.g. for firing weapons it is necessary to establish an opening in the field. Therefor, the generator activates another pattern and deforms the field on proper places so it is possible to fire with minimal unprotected area, Shuttle [...] has pattern for loading and unloading units. Ground units have the ability to swithc off the shield underneath, if there is not imminent danger from below (mines, Lurkers [...] ...) and thus saving energy.
The shield doesn´t affect visible light, but it protects against laser weapons [...]. It may also protect against psionic attacks to a certain extent. The surface of the shield is invisible, but it glows with blue light on impact. The shield requires certain amount of energy to form again and stabilize, when depleted. It means, that unit with depleted shield is vulnerable, until it has enough energy to form a stable field. Then it can reactivate the shield on the lowest energy level and recharge it.
Battlesuit
The Khalai developed several types of battlesuit for templar warriors. Due to their advanced physiology, Protoss don´t need hermetic space suit, so they serve primary as an armour. The material is very light but ultra durable and it has characteristic gold colour, that may be annealed or marked with tribal colour. The suit helps to generate the shield [...] and they are powered by Khaydarin crystals [...]. Important feature of the battlesuit is an emergency personal teleporter. In case of serious or fatal injury, the Protoss is instantly transported back to safety, where he is granted immediate medical aid. The transport itself resembles blue twinkle. [2]
The Medium battlesuit is used by Zealots [...] and some High templars [...]. The suit covers legs entirely and it´s equipped with legs enhancements that help user achieve great speeds, jump or fall from great heights. The pelvic section carries support shield bows. The chest section protects the upper body, shoulders and neck and carries two more shield bows. The head and arms are unprotected. The cubital sections are armoured and equipped with PSI blades generators [...].
The Heavy battlesuit is heavier version designed for Vindicators [...]. It has slightly harder armour and it coveres entire body - the whole torso, head and arms.
The Light battlesuit is lite version for High templars [...]. The leg armour is absent and it consists only of chest and cubital armour. Some High templars actually don´t wear any battlesuit, they dress only to fabrics in tribal colours and markings, relying entirely on their powers.
The Stealth battlesuit was recently developed for Dark templars [...]. It´s modified version of medium battlesuit, so that it doesn´t interfere with cloaking field.
Khaydarin/Argus
Blue Khaydarin crystals are the keystone to the Protoss technology. They absorb and store local Psi energy. Xel´Naga used them in their proto-genetic experiments. They serve primary as a source of energy. Dark templars [...] use dark-purple type known as the Argus.
Artifical intelligence
The Protoss use robotics units in a large extent, which wouldn´t be possible without advanced artifical intelligence. Protoss machines are used for mining, building, repairs, but also in exploration, transportation and fight. The Protoss use sophisticated neural networks, pozitron technologies and crystal computers. The AI is very efficient in all branches of employment : recognition, classification or searching for optimal solutions in difficult battle scenarios.
Cloaking
The Protoss have very advanced coaking technology. As well as the Terran´s [...] it works on light bending principle. But in contrary to Terrans, Protoss units don´t need any aditional energy tom maintain the field, so they are able to sustain it permanently. Actually, the device needs energy to work, but Protoss energy sources are able to supply it with sufficient energy in a real time. The similar principle is used by Dark templars [...], who are able to move unseen and strike from the shadows, and by Observers [...], which are small and they don´t carry nothing more than engines and sensors, so they have nothing to expose themselves. However even those cloaked units can be detected.
Anti-gravity/gravitic engines
The Protoss use one of two technologies for flight. Antigravitational for hovering, or flight low above the ground and Gravitic engines for fast flight in atmosphrere or in space. Quite enough units use antigravitional generators to some extent. Some use them for levitation (probes [...]) some only for easier movement (dragoons [...] and reavers [...]). Gravitic thrusters are similar to the jet engine. By space deformation they create pull, or push vector. This vector can have any direction, but it´s size is dependant on the deviation from main axis. The full force can act only in the forward direction. The greater the deviation the smaller the force and eventually it drops to a small constant value. Therefor ships are able to move in any directions, independent on engine orientation, but such movement is much slower. The engine doesn´t need a fuel. It consumes only energy and works even under water. Gravitic thrusters have typical blue glow.
Warp/Warp rift/Warp gate
The warp technology is similar to the terran warp [...]. It enables quite fast travelling. Second way is much faster. The ship opens a spatial warp rift that enables instantenous transfer. However to open the rift it´s necessary to know exact coordinats of the target location. These may be provided by friendly unit or warp beacon and calculating the coordinates requires presence of unit/beacon for the certain time. If the coordinates are already known, the rift may be opened right away. Also it´s possible for another ships to travel through the rift, that was created by other ship. So the first ship can create the rift and the others can use it (if they are not bigger). This way it´s possible to move even smaller ships, that don´t carry warp rift generators themselves. The disadvantage of this technology lies in the fact, that it can´t be used in vicinity of large gravitional fields (planets) and it can´t be used for travelling to unknown locations. The similar principle is used by gateways [...], stargates [...] and warp gates, with the difference, that they can be used even on planets.
Spatio-temporal manipulations
The most recent technologies enables the manipulation with the time-space. Arbiters [...] project a reality-warping field that serves to conceal all friendly units. They can create a tear in the fabric of space-time, that connects two places and enables the transfer of units. They are also able to create stasis field, that separates the whole area from the time-space. Motherships [...] can create time dilatation fields (time flows slower) or they can even create artifical small black holes with devastating effect on anything near them.
Rematerialization
The Protoss have mastered the technology of dematerialization and materialization. Using psionic manufacturing processes, the protoss have learned how to create a robotic mind whose programming is built into the molecules of an advanced crystal lattice. This "crystal computer" is able to manipulate matter and energy with a precision no ordinary organic mind could comprehend. Living and inorganic subjects are transformed into energy, and their unique signature imprinted into the prism's crystal lattice core. On reaching the desired destination the operation is reversed and the stored energy signatures are reconfigured into matter in proximity to the phase prism. Due to this technology it´s possible to transport large cargo on small ships. The transport is easier, because the ships don´t have to unload units physically, they only materialize them at s distance [1].
